Our Dads' Club Rocks!!!
We can not thank the Sacred Heart Dads' Club enough for all the hard work and many hours they have dedicated to the school over this summer and early fall. We also want to thank all the Moms, students and friends of the school who also devoted much of their summer to both the elementary and high school campuses. Because of them, our new high school campus was ready to open on August 11th. This would have never happened if it weren't for all our dedicated dads and other volunteers.

The Crusaders opened their inaugural high school football season by traveling to Pascagoula taking on Resurrection Eagles Saturday, August 21st. This is the first time in Sacred Heart’s 111-year history that the school has had high school football. The J.V. team fought a hard fight but lost to Resurrection 32-14. Art is Alive and Well at Sacred Heart Catholic School
For the sixth year in a row, Sacred Heart Catholic School has been awarded a $7,600 grant from the Mississippi Art Commission. This grant is a portion of the $1.64 million in grants the Commission will award in the 2010-2011 year, and will be used to infuse the arts into the core curriculum at both the elementary school and the high school. Again this year the grant has been matched by a very generous, anonymous donor. This funding will also be used at Sacred Heart to continue and grow the following areas: -A well established Art program with dedicated faculty in both schools -Elementary music program -Elementary and high school band -High school Choir -Varsity Speech and Debate program -State-Champion Mock Trial Team -Annual 7th grade Dinner Theater -High school theatre program and productions -Teacher training in arts integration several times a year. -Visiting Artists-in-residence programs for students and teachers -Sacred Hands Sign Language Club -School-wide art related field trips and demonstrations -Daily arts integration in the classroom -Active in community sponsored events like, Historic downtown Hattiesburg Art Walks, Hub Fest, Irish-Italian Festival Art Show

Camp Invention Being Held At Sacred Heart
From the June 17 Hattiesburg American Kids in grades 1-6 are attending the science camp where the main mission is nurturing creative genius. 'They're using creativity, math, science and their imagination to create rockets, mobiles, machines and all kinds of stuff,' camp counselor Stephen Garcia, 16, said. Teachers from Sacred Heart oversee the campers and counselors and teach the lessons. 'They don't even know they're learning,' said Camp Invention director Tiffany Bradford, a first-grade teacher at Sacred Heart. 'It's all very hands-on. The kids are presented with a problem. They have to work as a team to solve it.' The camp consists of four rooms, or modules, where the kids gather to do science projects the Camp Invention way. 'The kids don't just sit there and listen,' said Bradford. 'Noise and excitement is part of the curriculum.' One module is called 'Saving Sludge City.' 'Right now they're building a city. It was polluted. They saved the lake by cleaning the water,' camp counselor Wesley Cameron, 14, said. 'They had to make a water filter using a funnel, some sand and a cloth.' The campers also made a landfill out of clay, plastic wrap, paper towels, Kool-Aid and water. Then they learned to clean up the 'oil,' or Kool-Aid, from the landfill. A second module is called Art Park. The kids are told an eccentric supporter of Art Park has threatened to stop donating unless they design a new sculpture garden that is up to his standards. The kids build totem poles, mobiles and other artwork using recyclable materials they bring from home. In the process, they learn how to measure, how to balance and they learn some principles of physics. Most of the materials for Invention Camp are provided by the kids and come from the Recycle Room. It is filled with egg cartons, cardboard boxes, milk cartons, Coke bottles and cardboard tubes. The hallway is littered with paper bags filled with old household appliances. This is the third year Sacred Heart has hosted Camp Invention. The first year, about 20 c
