On April 8th a partial solar eclipse will be visible in our area. Since viewing an eclipse may present a risk of eye injury, we will not be viewing the eclipse as a school. We will be taking measures to ensure the safety of our students and staff on that day by having a regular school day, with the exception of outside activities and recess during school hours. We will not go outside during the day.
The eclipse presents a unique learning opportunity for students. Classroom teachers will explain this event using resources and activities from NASA. You are welcome to check your child out for viewing under your supervision, and it will be considered an excused absence.
The eclipse is expected to occur until approximately 3:14 p.m. on Monday. Carpool that afternoon will run as usual, with teachers cautioning children as they exit the building. High School parents, please speak to your children who drive themselves each day regarding safety measures for viewing.
We know that experiencing an eclipse in the classroom or by viewing will be a source of inspiration and knowledge for years to come. For more information, please visit NASA.
